Planning to have the best shopping experience in Athens? Well, you have found your safe place! Let me start by walking you through my journey. On my second day in Athens, we decided that we wanted to explore one of the insanely beautiful places in Athens. Yeah, I think you guessed it right, it is - PLAKA. An ancient market adorned with bougainvillea. Eliminating the travel part as we just had a nice ten-minute walk from our hotel to reach there.

Things you need to know about Plaka:

Plaka is like a true historic gem that is perfectly preserved by the citizens. With numerous cafes, restaurants, jewelry shops, and a pretty ambiance, I was enchanted to be there. I can certainly say that I have never seen such a beautiful place. Moving further, I just want to mention that I have been always simply over European culture, specifically how they always manage to have astonishing sitting arrangements. That’s what makes it unique and sets it apart from other places I have visited.

After spending delightful hours in the market and shopping our hearts out, we agreed to treat ourselves to lunch. And you know? The weather was so in our favor!  After all, when in Greece, one must indulge in authentic Greek food!  We found a fantastic Greek restaurant called KOSMIKON in the market, where we ordered:

  • Greek Salad (one of my favorites, which I didn't miss even for a day in Athens)

  • Tuna Tartare

  • Risotto

  • Kebabs

  • Spring Rolls

  • Lamb Chops

The food was incredibly tasty! After our meal, we continued to explore the market for a while before heading back to the hotel around 5 PM. We took some time to relax before our next adventure.

For dinner, we headed to Varoulko Seaside restaurant, situated at Piraeus Harbor. This gem boasts a Michelin Star and is located in the southeast of Greece, right by Europe's largest passenger port. It's a major attraction for cruise ships from all corners of the globe, bringing in eager tourists looking to explore this ancient city.

The place is absolutely stunning, with open-air restaurants and cafes lining the waterfront. After our delightful dinner, we decided to take a leisurely stroll along Piraeus harbor. The night view there was breathtaking and you could stare at it for hours. So, if you ever decide to visit Greece, make sure not to skip this place. Even if you have one or two hours, go and make the most out of it.

Pro tip: Don't miss the chance to savor the delicious food at Varoulko Seaside – it's not just a meal; it's a Michelin Star experience! #GreekAdventure #VaroulkoSeaside #PiraeusHarbourMagic

Final Words

After all these fun things we indulged in, we have decided to call it a day. Trust me all the shopping, exploration, dining and especially meeting with new people throughout the day made me feel more alive. I never felt like I didn’t fit in or I am having a hard time adjusting. This place was so welcoming and warm. So, Shall we end it here? Come back tomorrow as I have so much more to share in this series.
